NATO’s July 8-9 summit in Warsaw, which decided to bolster the alliance’s eastern flank, has boosted Poland’s security, the head of the country’s ruling Law and Justice Party said on Sunday.

"This is a great success. We have a fundamental change and a very clear increase in the level of security of our country. We have a new stage in the functioning of the alliance, a revival,” Jarosław Kaczyński said at a press conference.

He added: “This is something we have been waiting for and which increases both our security and our self-confidence."

NATO country leaders meeting in Warsaw on Friday and Saturday decided to deploy four multinational, rotating battalions to Poland and three Baltic countries, which all fear potential Russian aggression after Moscow’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Kaczyński hailed the summit as a success for President Andrzej Duda, the government of Prime Minister Beata Szydło and for Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz in particular. (pk)
