A landfill site in Warsaw’s Radiowo district may turn into an extreme sports paradise after the site is expected to close in a few years’ time.

With a depth of 80 metres, the Radiowo site is currently the closest to the capital’s city centre.

Plans for the site include the construction of a dry-ski slope, as well as a snowboard half-pipe. Mountain bike trails are also proposed in the plans to transform the landfill site.

While the site is to be closed in a few years, plans to build the sports infrastructure could be realised within five years, finances permitting.

If the plans get the go-ahead, then Radiowo will be the fifth such landfill site to be successfully transformed into public utility area in Poland, following similar sites in Szczesliwice, also in Warsaw, and the Malta district in Poznan. (jb)
