Former MP of the liberal Your Movement party Roman K. was detained on Monday following raids on a private apartment and the editorial office of the Fakty i Mity (Facts and Myths) weekly in Łódź.

The suspect is facing seven charges in all, the majority of which concern alleged financial misdemeanours.

The most serious allegation concerns the incitement to murder his ex-wife (no killing was carried out).

According to a statement released by the Appellate Prosecutor's Office in Łódź, “the suspect is accused of repeatedly urging - in this country and abroad - two people to carry out the murder of his wife.

It was agreed that in return for carrying out this act the people in question would be given a considerable amount of money.”

Roman K. was a priest from 1993-1996, after which he left the Roman Catholic Church. He later wrote a memoir of his time as a priest, and set up Fakty i Mity in 2000. (nh)
