Warsaw City Hall has launched a special task force in charge of accommodating 500 refugees in the capital.

The task force, which includes city officials in charge of contacts with Warsaw-based foreigners, alongside civil society organisations and academics, is to prepare for taking in refugees expected to arrive as part of Poland's pledge to accept 7,000 asylum-seekers from Syria and Eritrea.

Talks on setting the team's priorities and deadlines are being held with Warsaw city mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz on Friday.

Poland's new Law and Justice administration, however, has criticised the previous Civic Platform government’s decision to take in thousands of refugees as part of an EU relocation scheme agreed in September. (aba/pk/rk)
