Szydło claims that reading into the disappearance of the EU flag during her recent press conference is “bad will” of the mostly-foreign commentators, and created a “storm in a teacup”.

In an interview for the daily Rzeczpospolita published on Friday, she stressed that Poland benefits from EU, and still is an active member.

Nevertheless Szydło indicated that Poland should secure its foreign interests more strongly and “represent Polish citizens in the same way as the EU’s strongest countries do.”

The PM admitted there is a lot of political pressure put on the Polish government in several aspects, but assured she will look for the best possible compromise.

Closer to home

Besides the international situation, Szydło also commented on Polish internal affairs, especially on the quick pace of legislative work by the country's Parliament, where her conservative PiS party enjoys a majority.

“We work fast, because we are prepared. There is a lot to do, also in the first 100 days. We want to act without any delay,” PM Szydło said.

The head of government also stated, that “there will be trouble with 2015 budget implementation, as the previous government has overestimated [national] income.”

The ruling PiS party will probably be forced to look for some cuts, Szydło explained, yet she reiterated that “all the roadmap promises will be fulfilled.” (tf/rg/rk)
