Among them are members of the Pontifical Council for the Laity with its President, Stanisław Cardinal Ryłko of Poland, and 13 bishops, including those from South Korea and Mozambique.

The aim of the five-day meeting is to exchange information between the organisers of the World Youth Day and those in charge of the preparations in the various countries and Roman Catholic communities.

The participants will be taken on a tour of all the venues of next year’s religious celebrations, including the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in the Kraków district of Łagiewniki, the Błonie common in Kraków and the Campus Misericordiae in the nearby Wieliczka, where young people from around the world will attend a night vigil and holy mass with Pope Francis on 30-31 July.

With eight months to go before the event, over 480, 000 people from 140 countries have confirmed their participation in registered groups of pilgrims. Over 2 million people are expected to take part in the World Youth Day. (mk/rg/rk)
