The data gathered by the Economic Information Bureau (KRD) shows that despite a sharp drop in train travellers in recent years, the number of people who evade transport fares has remained largely unchanged. KRD estimates that around 300 million train trips are taken every year, much less than ten years ago.
“The number of railway debtors has remained at a similar level for many years,” said the KRD president Adam Lacki.
He added that "this means that our society has adopted a belief that it does not need to pay for rail travel.”
KRD says that as many as 40 percent of the fare dodgers listed in the Registry are people aged between 26 and 35. (rg/rk)
