The ongoing hot weather, coupled with low rainfall in Poland, has led to the level of water in the country’s rivers dropping to alarming levels.

The water in the Bóbr river in southwest Poland measures as little as 11 cm (4.3 in).

Many localities in Poland now lack water in wells and taps.

“There is a very big problems with water. There is very little of it,” said Piotr Szymanski, from the Wleń town council in south western Poland.

“About 150 households need water at the moment,” he said, adding that the town is helping them in any way it can.

The country's major river, the Vistula is also experiencing a drought.

Experts say that the heatwave in Poland will likely continue for the next two weeks. (rg)
