The President said he was glad that he could decorate these veterans after 26 years since Poland embarked on the democratic path.
“It is a great joy to hand out these medals related to the fight for Poland in 1944, as well as the service for Polish independence today. It's something very dear to us all, because we all know that the difficult history of Polish freedom was measured by crosses,” Komorowski said on Thursday.

“Today, the merit is measured in medals,” Komorowski added.
“However, the biggest form of thanks – the most important form of recognition and respect – is that we can observe the fact that after twenty-odd years of satisfaction, today we see the effects of a regained freedom,” President Komorowski said.
