Most call outs were in the central Mazowsze region at over 500. In Silesia in the south there were 483 and in Kujawy and Pomerania in the north 282, the service said.

Throughout Poland, strong wind tore the roofs off 33 buildings, including 23 apartments blocks. It damaged in total 171 buildings, including 111 residential blocks, Frątczak said.

As a result of storms approx. 80,000 households are also without electricity.

The Fire Service is now focused on removing felled trees and pumping out water from flooded buildings. (jh/rk)
