The taxi drivers' union says PLN 360 million (about EUR 85 million) is lost annually to unlicensed taxi traffic, with the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) also losing out to the tune of about PLN 70 million a year.
At 11:00 am on Tuesday two separate columns of taxis will move towards the centre of Warsaw where they will meet at Torwar hall, a kilometre from the city centre.
From there the tour will move to the Sejm lower house of parliament, where demonstrators will hand a petition to politicians.
Unions demand accelerated work on amendments to the law on road transport, giving departments more effective tools to combat unlicensed taxi operators. (jh)
