In these final stages of the search, the machine drilling for the men has slowed down in order not to cause further damage to the area.
The rescue mission has already drilled through 1,000 metres of rubble, and has now slowed the drilling down to 1.5 metres an hour. It was previously moving along at five metres an hour.
Wojciech Jaros, the spokesperson for the company which owns the mine, Katowicki Holding Węglowy (KHW), said it is difficult to determine when the search party will arrive to the area which is believed to contain the miners.
However, he added, that if the rig does not encounter any major problems, the machine should overcome the last metres after midnight.
The two miners were trapped underground following an earthquake on 18 April. (rg)
