The patient is said to be a pilot who had just returned from abroad.

Joanna Narożniak, press spokeswoman for the Regional Sanitary-Epidemiological Board in Warsaw said that on Saturday to Sunday night, blood samples were taken from the patient in question to check for malaria and Ebola.

“Both diseases have similar symptoms, and tests have to be undertaken at least two or three times before a final diagnosis,” she said.

However, on Sunday night the results of the first tests, which had been carried out in the National Insitute of Hygiene, ruled out the virus, although a second test is to be carried out, Monday.

If Monday’s results also discount the presence of ebola, then the is set to get the all-clear, but until then remains under supervision.

Since the outbreak of Ebola in west Africa, 10,500 people have died. (jb)
