The police have confiscated 27,000 counterfeit condoms on Monday, warning that many more items of dubious efficacy may be on the Polish market.

The condoms, imported from China, were being flogged under the brand of a well-known UK producer, Onet.pl reported.

“Their import may have been ongoing since 2012,” a spokesperson for the police said. “They are made of material definitely different from the original product. Their chemical make-up remains unknown.”

The condoms were confiscated at several warehouses in the town of Otwock near Warsaw.

The police called on wholesalers, retailers and consumers to exercise care, as the number of fake condoms on the market is yet to be determined. (an)
