Polish Radio's English Section is deeply saddened to report that Peter Gentle, the driving force behind thenews.pl, died on Sunday morning.

His prodigious energy and enthusiasm for his job will be sorely missed.
Besides being a prolific writer, he was also a sparkling presence in the studio.
His programme Dateline, in which guests debated topics that were making waves in Poland, had won a loyal following, thanks to his unfailing gusto and light touch.
His colleagues will miss his wit and charisma.
Our thoughts are with his immediate family in Warsaw, the city he had made his home.
