Prowling puma on streets of major pilgrimage site?

A puma is reported to be on the loose in the southern city of Czestochowa, known for being one of Poland’s major centres of pilgrimage over the summer months.

So far, residents on one of the city’s streets are convinced that the maruading wildcat is responsible for the deaths of three deer and a few dozen chickens.
However, tests on the deer have shown that they were not brought down by the feline foe, although a dead carcass of a deer was found on Tuesday which witnesses say was earlier chased by a wild, but unknown, creature.
Regardless of whether the animal is a puma or a large homeless dog, Czestochowa authorities have felt the need to protect residents and have decided to lay a trap to capture the wild animal, whatever it may be.
If the trap fails to catch the animal, authorities are also suggesting they may install thermographic cameras in the area to discern which animal is responsible for the carnage. (jb)
