The ceremonies over the weekend mark the 228th anniversary of the death of Elimelech of Lizhensk, as the town was known in Yiddish, will be attended by several thousand Hasidic Jews from around the world.
Rebbi Elimelech (1717 - 1787), authored the classic work Noam Elimelech, which developed the Hasidic theory of the Tzaddik.
As the founder of Hasidism in Poland-Galicia, his influence led numerous leaders and dynasties to emerging from his disciples through the early 19th century. (pg)
