Official - Warsaw population still under 2 million

Poland’s capital city, Warsaw, has 1, 619 633 inhabitants, according to official data, an increase of 5,000 in 2013.

Over the past twelve months, the number of newly-born babies in the capital was 32, 435 - 944 more than in 2012.

The most popular names parents gave their children in the capital last year was Zofia for girls and Jan for boys, followed by Julia, Zuzanna, Aleksandra and Hanna for girls and by Antoni, Jakub, Franciszek and Aleksander for boys.

Parents’ preferences in Warsaw do not reflect the nationwide statistics, at least as far as the Number One on the list, which is Lena for girls and Jakub for boys. (mk)
