Pro-life group meets in Krakow

Delegates from 20 countries attending the first European Pro-life Congress in Krakow, southern Poland at the weekend decided to start work on the statutes of the European Federation of Pro-Life Movements.

Jakub Bałtroszewicz, a Polish pro-life activist, has told the Catholic Information Agency that such a broad international cooperation has added an entirely new dimension to the activities of pro-life organizations in individual countries.
A total of 1.9 million signatures have been collected in 28 EU members states under the ‘One of Us’ initiative the aim of which is to prevent the financing of abortion programmes from EU funds.
According to the Lisbon Treaty, a million signatures is required under a European Civic Initiative for the European Commission to commence a debate on the issue. (mk)
