Police in the south-western Lower Silesian province have taken four people into custody after a plantation containing 2,500 plants and 4.5 kilogrammes of processed marijuana was seized in the village of Parzyce, a stone’s throw from Poland’s pottery capital of Boleslawiec.

A disused bed and breakfast was used for the plantation where the marijuana was grown and packaged. Around 50 kilogrammes of the drug could have been prepared from the plants, with estimates pointing to around 2 million zloty (500,000 euro) in profits if the drugs would have been sold on the black market.

Four people were arrested during a raid by the Central Investigation Bureau with backup from the local police force in Boleslawiec. Three of the suspects have been taken into temporary custody for three months for their role in the crime.

“The suspects have been accused of illegal production of intoxicating substances and their sale,” inspector Andrzej Gaska from the Silesian police force told journalists, Thursday, adding that the assailants may face up to three years in prison if found guilty.

Additionally, one of the suspects was found carrying a gun and ammunition when arrested. (jb)
