“The Masculinity of Polish Blokes” (Meskosc Polskich Facetow) report was carried out by Warsaw's University of Social Sciences and Humanities (SWPS), drawing on interviews with 500 men.

When asked who best represented the Polish male ideal, the most popular response was actor Boguslaw Linda, best known for his role as a tough guy in hit movie Dogs (Psy) and its sequel.

“He is one of the traditional macho male types,” Dr Joanna Roszak from SWPS told Polish Radio.

“His temperament sometimes gives rise to aggression, for example in relations with other men,” she said of Linda's on-screen persona.

Meanwhile, when asked which qualities they believed were most important and attractive in their gender, most Polish men that were surveyed cited courage, followed by independence.

Most men interviewed also declared their willingness to intervene in a dangerous situation. (nh)
