Thousands march for legalisation of marijuana

“The day will come when we can legally smoke a joint here and police will give us a light,” liberal MP Janusz Palikot told several thousand people at the Marijuana March in Warsaw.

The MP, leader of the Palikot Movement – the third largest party currently in Poland's lower house of parliament (Sejm) has been leading the campaign to get cannabis legalised in Poland and was joined at the march on Saturday by members of the German Green Party, left-wing politician Ryszard Kalisz and marchers carrying banners reading 'Plant, smoke, legalise' and 'Free imprisoned smokers'.

Maverick right-wing politician Janusz Korwin-Mikke told the demonstrators that “Marijuana is just one of the steps on the road to freedom”. (pg)
