The action was announced at a press conference held by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the conservative Law and Justice party (PiS).
“This motion is not an opportunity for PiS, but rather for the whole of parliament to change an exceptionally bad, incompetent government, so that changes that are now absolutely necessary can be carried out in Poland,” he said, as cited by the Polish Press Agency (PAP).
Kaczynski has returned to his declared aim of attempting to install a so-called “government of experts,” which would be led by his candidate for prime minister Professor Piotr Glinski, who is not an MP.
The concept was originally put forward last October.
Glinski has told the TVN24 news channel that his shadow cabinet already numbers twenty “eminent specialists from various fields,” but that he cannot reveal their names at present.
Glinski will also be seeking to hold talks with the parliamentary clubs of Poland's political parties, so as to garner support for the prospective vote of no confidence, ruling out only the anti-clerical Palikot's Movement.
However, Leszek Miller, head of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) has already told TOK FM that he will decline any such official meeting with Glinski.
Meanwhile, Pawel Gras, spokesman for Prime Minister Tusk's centre-right Civic Platform party has derided the motion.
“This was an idea thought up by PiS in an act of desperation many months ago, and they make a din about it every few weeks or so,” he said, as cited by PAP.
Speaker of the lower house of parliament Ewa Kopacz has indicated that the request will not be considered until early March, during the first parliamentary session of that month.
Glinski would need a majority of 231 votes to dethrone the current coalition government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk (there are 460 seats in the lower house of parliament).
However, coalition partners Civic Platform and the the Polish Peasants' Party still have 235 seats between them.(nh)
