Fire sweeps through shopping ‘pavilion’, central Poland

More than twenty fire brigade units battled with a huge fire which enveloped a shopping ‘pavilion’ in Lodz, central Poland on Thursday morning.

Spokesman at the local fire brigade, Arkadiusz Makowski, said a row of single story retail units went up in flames this morning, in an area covering 200 sq metres.

“The smoke is so thick that it is difficult for fire fighters to enter the interior of the pavilion. Situation is difficult to control," he told the PAP news agency.

There is no information, as yet, if there have been any casualties in the fire or what caused the blaze. (pg)
