From the Archive is a new show bringing you the best of our archive recordings with commentary by host Anna Piwowarska and guests.

In this brand new programme in which we’ll be bringing you the best of our archive recordings since the English section began broadcasting in 1936. This week the show’s host, Anna Piwowarska, and the Head of the English section, John Beauchamp, rediscover a radio dramatization of the short story The Joy of Living by Michał Choromański.

The writer, who lived and wrote at the time of Witold Gombrowicz and Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz but never reached their levels of fame, is best known for his 1933 novel , Jealousy and Medicine, which awarded the The Young Writer’s Prize by the Polish Academy of Literature.

The Joy of Living is read by James Barclay (aka Barry Clayton) and was recorded at the English section of Polish Radio in 1965.

From the Archive broadcasts every Saturday at 19.30 CET, after Dateline Warsaw at 19.05 CET.
