The commercial exploitation of Poland's shale gas deposits should commence in 2014 - said PM Donald Tusk while visiting Lubocino in the Pomerania region where the Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) has just successfully started extraction of shale gas.

Polish reserves are estimated at 5.3 trillion cubic metres of natural gas. If they prove right, it would allow the country to reduce its reliance on coal and its dependence on Russian gas supplies.
