The Palestinian bid for statehood, which could give the nation a prospect of ending Israel’s forty-year occupation, has strongly divided the international community.
After two decades of a complicated and painful peace process in the Middle East, the issue of the Palestinian statehood has come back to the limelight, becoming a bone of contention between the world powers. While the United States and Israel strongly oppose the Palestinians' bid to seek a membership of the United Nations, Russia, India, and China fully back its claim. The European Union also remains divided over the issue.
