But the two-day meeting was set to lay bare divisions, with major European allies of the United States sending low-profile representatives amid unease over President Donald Trump's strident calls to cripple Iran's economy.

Since the news of the conference broke last month, relations between Warsaw and Tehran have been fraught, with some Polish media voicing criticism of the event.

But in an interview with Polish Radio, Heritage Foundation analyst James Phillips pointed out the conference would provide a venue for Israeli and Arab leaders to meet.

Michał Owczarek reports.
