Around 9 million tonnes of food is wasted across Poland every year, according to European Commission data from 2006, cited by the Polish environment ministry.
As part of the project, research will be conducted to find out how consumers make their purchases and why they waste food, says Marek Borowski, CEO of the Federation of Polish Food Banks.
“We are also going to survey the grocery sector and distribution in partnership with chain stores and … trade organisations,” Borowski said.
