What will be Britain’s vote to leave the EU mean for the Polish economy? The first reaction of markets was nervous: indexes and exchange rates went down (including that of the Polish currency), while the US dollar, Swiss franc and gold went up.

Now the situation seems to be improving, with the figures creeping up, but uncertainty continues as to what the economic consequences of the Brexit will really be.

Polish Finance Minister Paweł Szałamacha told Polish Radio that Warsaw was financially prepared. Nonetheless Britain is one of the top contributors to the EU budget - and Poland’s main market for produce, after Germany.

And there is a Polish community of about a million living in the UK.
