  • How Poles celebrate Easter in New York
Most people of Polish ancestry in New York more or less try to keep the Polish customs and traditions.

Poles in Chicago are the most famous group of immigrant Poles and Americans of Polish heritage currently living in the United States, however, New York City makes up for an even bigger Polonia population.

Radio Poland’s Kamila Kudelska talked to three Polish immigrants who have lived in New York City for more than 20 years to see whether they still celebrate Polish Easter traditions, like Śmigus-Dyngus or Wet Monday.

“In the back of my head, my mentality, that’s the second day of Easter,” said Krzysztof Kopczynski.

“Of course we [Americans] don’t celebrate this spraying girls with water [Śmigus-Dyngus] but when my daughter was young I did for her.”
