New pilot project for the elderly
Poland can be found at the tail-end of the latest Active Ageing Index for EU countries, measuring the extent to which elderly people can realise their full potential in terms of employment, participation in social and cultural life and independent living.

The rate at which the Polish population is growing old has accelerated. New, innovative projects are needed to address the issue. As Michał Owczarek reports, one of them, in the coastal town of Sopot, northern Poland, is being handled by Professor Jacek Bigda of the Medical University of Gdańsk.
"We are managing a joint project of the Medical University of Gdańsk and the municipality of Sopot to implement a new model of healthcare for seniors in Sopot. [The town] is a kind of laboratory for demographic change in Poland," said Prof. Bigda.
