Looking back at the life of one of Poland's most acclaimed artists
Wojciech Fangor, one of Poland's most important artists of the twentieth century, was laid to rest at Powązki cemetery in Warsaw on Tuesday.

One of the last projects of this versatile artist was a design for the new line of the Polish underground in Warsaw.
Painter, poster designer, sculptor, he was the only Polish artist to have a one-man show at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
In this telephone conversation with Elżbieta Krajewska, Margaret Soltan, Professor of literature at the George Washington University in Washington DC and a family friend from the time when Fangor was living in the United States, shares her memories of him.
Wojciech Fangor died on October 25, three weeks before his 93rd birthday. An exhibition of his so-called ‘spatial’ paintings from the years 1958-1970 will open in Warsaw this November.
