Thousands of asylum seekers are coming to Europe every week, but EU member states still remain divided over refugee quotas.
Poland has said it can take 2,000 refugees, but Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz has intimated the country will take more. On Wednesday, Poland’s parliament held an extraordinary session on the matter. Agnieszka Łaszczuk reports.
“Cannot a country like this afford a gesture of solidarity?,” Ewa Kopacz asked Polish MPs, referring to a recent pro-migrant speech of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
“Who has created this strong magnet, this powerful social magnet for economic immigrants? Germany has! And [Hungarian President Viktor Orban] was right, it is their problem, not ours,” said Jarosław Kaczyński, the head of conservative Law and Justice (PiS).
