The Polish Chamber of Books has drafted a bill that will introduce fixed prices for new book releases for 12 months after their publication. The bill’s first reading took place on Wednesday.

Agnieszka Łaszczuk reports on whether the new regulations are a remedy to the continuing decline of book sales in Poland.

“The main aim of the fixed price policy is to help small publishers to compete with big chains,” said Magda Dębowska, co-owner of the Karakter publishing house based in Kraków.
