There is a moment many foreigners in Poland face. It’s that often stark realisation that they are never really going to fully understand the place they live.
They will get a version of it, their version of it, mostly in their own language, voice, and tempo. Sometimes interpreted by friendly strangers or family. But most often not.
All the stuff we think we know we suddenly realise is being mediated, passed through the censor of our own culture and language, our version of it anyway.
