Giving birth in a foreign country can be a traumatic experience for a woman, going far beyond ordinary language barriers.
It may but – as Sławek Szefs reports – this does not have to be the case in Poland thanks to a new project with pregnant migrant women in mind.
“We help them to understand cultural differences in our approach towards infant care as well as to acquaint them with some practical information: what to expect at the hospital, what assistance will be provided by the midwives and doctors, or how the actual childbirth shall proceed,” says Zuzanna Rejmer from the Polish Migrant Forum, one of the organisations involved in the ‘Being a mom in Poland’ program.
