European 112 Emergency Number Day reminds Poles that this is not an information helpline.

As Agnieszka Bielawska reports, 11 February marks the European day of the 112 emergency number, a unified emergency number which works in all 28 member states of the European Union.
According to data from the Ministry of Administration and Digitisation, from the 21 million calls made in Poland to 112, over 10 million – 48 percent – were false alarms.
“I answered calls demanding I help unblock the mobile phone, or take an order for take away food, I hear insults directed at me, or spiteful information about a hated neighbour,” says one of the 112 emergency operators.
