As Alicja Baczyńska reports, in citing meagre business prospects US energy giant Chevron has dropped its shale gas project in Poland. As the company writes in its official statement: “The opportunities here no longer compete favorably with other opportunities in Chevron's global portfolio.”

Chevron follows in the footsteps of other major players pulling out of Poland in recent years, including Exxon Mobil, Total and Marathon Oil. The steady outflow of disillusioned companies deterred by red tape and meager test extraction results deals another blow to Poland’s high expectations for a flourishing shale gas industry.
