As John Beauchamp reports, the last day of 2014 also passed by without any major incidents.

For President Bronisław Komorowski, the most important event in 2014 was Poland’s 25th anniversary of its reganing of freedom from under communism.

“From the perspective of a quarter-century one can easily see our achievements, our successes, but also our weaknesses,” he said.

Police also reported fewer New Year’s Eve road accidents than in 2013. A year ago, there were 102 accidents with 9 killed and 127 injured, while 147 were arrested for drink driving. This year that number was lower, as Krzysztof Hajdas from Police HQ explains.

“There were 65 accidents in which three people died and 72 people were injured, with police stopping 125 drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol,” he told Polish Radio.
