A new UN report released last month says scientists are 95% certain that humans are the "dominant cause" of global warming since the 1950s.

On the ground, in the air and in the oceans, global warming is "unequivocal", the report explained.

So what are the prospects of the 192 countries and thousands of delegates attending the 12-day UN conference coming to some kind of consensus on how to deal with this problem? And is Poland, which has been criticized by some for not doing enough to cut its C02 emissions, the best place to hold such a conference?

In the magazine today: Alicja Baczynska sets the scene before the conference and prospects of a deal; and Nick Hodge looks at what Krakow is doing to clear up its smog problem.

We will also be asking Dow Jones’ acting central and eastern European bureau chief Marcin Sobczyk why Poland has been resisting the deep cuts in C02 emissions that have been called for by some of the more hawkish EU countries on the issue.

Agnieszka Bielawska has a bulletin of news and Slawek Szefs looks at the headlines in the dailies.

All that, and more, in News from Poland’s UN Climate Change Preview.
