Unions plan anti-government protest

Major trade union centrals have teamed up in an effort to oppose the government proposed changes to the Labor Code.

Brussels has been complaining about lack of social dialogue in the CEE region due to modest trade union ranks. However, the Polish workers want to prove that it is the unity of their actions that count, and not membership.

“The government is testing us to see how much more will we give in. But we shall not step back even an inch. A showdown is needed and it will take place," warns Solidarity chairman, Piotr Duda.

As Slawek Szefs reports, their reaction has been a rare example of combined interests and joint active policy. The all-union confrontation with the Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government has been set for September.
