English is, of course, the most common language studied by young and old in Poland, reports Slawek Szefs.
However, fresh travel opportunities that emerged after the fall of communism and Poland joining the European Union have prompted many to learn languages such as “Norwegian, Swedish, Estonian and other rare languages, treating this as a hobby but also helping them to communicate during their travels and speak with people they do not meet on a daily basis,” says Agnieszka Pietrzak from the Foundation for Education System Development.
