A report by Michal Kubicki
As the race for Academy Award nominations comes to an end, '80 Million' will be a candidate for a spot in the Best Foreign Language Category
The feature film which the Variety magazine describes as a ‘political morality tale from communist-era Poland’ is based on the events that took place ten days before the imposition of marial law in 1981.
'80 Million', directed by Waldemar Krzystek, was released in Poland in 2011. Although not a blockbuster hit, it received good reviews and has had solid DVD sales.
Last year, Poland’s entry in this category was Agnieszka Holland's Holocaust drama ‘In Darkness'.
