Best placed Pole in the men's race was Artur Kozlowski who finished in fourth place.

The women's race was won by Ukrainian Svetlana Stanko.

Changes to the normal route of the marathon, brought on by construction work of a second line of the capital's metro system, resulted in record times being posted by the competitors, with Kibet beating the old record by more than a minute.

But director of the race, Marek Tronina, was just as pleased with the record turnout.

"For me, the most important was the number of participants. The result and time record is just the icing on the cake,” he said. (pg)
