The match in the Dutch city of Apeldoorn on Thursday marked the Polish team's sixth game of the 2019 Women's Volleyball Nations League, which kicked off last week.

Poland beat Brazil 3-2 and defeated Bulgaria 3-1 in their previous two matches in the Dutch leg of the Nations League competition.

The Poles last week saw off Germany 3-1 and posted a straight-set 3-0 win over Thailand in the southern Polish city of Opole.

Poland lost 2-3 to Italy in their opening game at this year's Women’s Volleyball Nations League.

After Apeldoorn in the central Netherlands, the Polish women’s national volleyball team will travel to Kortrijk in Belgium for the next rounds of round-robin matches next week. They will then go to Asia for two more legs of the series.

Sixteen national teams are competing in the annual women's volleyball series, which is now in its second season.

The league, which has replaced the World Grand Prix competition, is run by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), the sport’s world governing body.

The 2019 Women's Volleyball Nations League finals will be held in China from July 2 to 6, with the top five teams plus the host nation taking part.

The defending champions are the United States, who last year defeated Turkey 3-2 in the league’s final match.

The Poles finished ninth in last year’s Nations League games.
