Tennis: Poland’s Świątek, Linette through to 2nd round at French Open

Rising Polish tennis star Iga Świątek has moved into the second round of the French Open tournament in Paris, with a straight-set 6-3, 6-0 win on Tuesday against France's Selena Janicijevic.

Up next for the 17-year-old Polish player in the women’s singles competition in the French capital was 16th-seeded Qiang Wang of China.
Świątek, who will turn 18 on Friday, is ranked world No. 104 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).
Earlier on Tuesday, Poland’s world No. 87 Magda Linette advanced to the second round of the women’s singles at the French Open after beating France’s Chloe Paquet 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Linette was due to face defending champion Simona Halep of Romania in the second round.
Meanwhile, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz was eliminated by Serbian world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the first round of the men’s singles at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris on Monday.
