Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz into 2nd round of Madrid Open

Polish tennis player Hubert Hurkacz has advanced to the second round of the Madrid Open tournament with a straight-set win over Australia’s world no. 27 Alex de Minaur.

Hurkacz, world no. 52 in the ATP rankings, beat de Minaur 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the men’s singles in the Spanish capital on Tuesday.
Next up for the 22-year-old Pole was Frenchman Lucas Pouille, who beat Croatia’s Borna Ćorić 6-3, 7-5.
Meanwhile, Poland’s Łukasz Kubot and Brazil’s Marcelo Melo moved into the second round of the men’s doubles in Madrid on Monday.
Kubot and Melo are the no. 2 seeds in the men’s doubles competition at the Madrid Open.
