The 22-year-old Pole made a solid start against Federer and the game had several exciting moments with Hurkacz clearly not intimidated.

It was, however, clear that the experience of the 37-year-old Swiss player led him through the game with flying colours.

Hubert Hurkacz admitted afterwards that the match was a tough lesson, which he hopes will profit in the future, and that he leaves the BNP Paribas Open satisfied.
