The setback in Varna, Bulgaria, on Saturday marked Poland's second straight defeat in the second round of the championships, which are being jointly hosted by Bulgaria and Italy.

The Poles, managed by Belgian coach Vital Heynen, were next due to play Serbia as they sought to progress to the final stage of the tournament and defend their title.

Poland on Friday lost 2-3 to Argentina to suffer their first defeat after a five-match winning streak at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championships.

Poland beat Cuba, Puerto Rico, Finland, Iran and Bulgaria in the first round of the tournament.

The 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championships run until September 30, with the Final Six scheduled to be held in Turin, Italy.

The FIVB volleyball federation is the sport's international governing body.
